As the Argentine Tango is an improvisational social dance I have
not literally choreographed Combinacíones, but provided a
structure for some of the finest social dancers in Boston to present
a popular version of the story of the tango as it was born, as it
has flourished to become a world-wide phenomenon and as it continues
to evolve…
The Tango contains 100 years of musicianship, and dance traditions
from African Candombe thru Polish Polkas and Spanish Flamenco. It
has always been and remains metaphoric: an expression by two dancers
for searching and struggle, loss, homesickness, even nationalism,
as well as the more obvious dualism of partnership.
